The Secret to PERFECT Quinoa!

The second Closer to Home episode is finally out and this time we’re talking about Oil Pairing ;)

But oil is fat, and isn’t fat bad for you?

Not all fats are bad fats! Just like not all carbs are bad carbs. There are actually tons of health benefits that come with the oils that we like to use with our quinoa.

Believe us, this is the secret to PERFECT Quinoa!

1. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil pairs amazingly with our Thai Green Curry Quinoa and Spicy Curry Quinoa.

This is due to the fact that curries typically contain some sort of cream or milk in it, and since our Quinoa Packs do not contain dairy or even coconut milk, we need to compensate the usual curry creaminess with coconut oil. The oil actually locks the moisture of the Quinoa in, so your Quinoa becomes beautifully soft, fluffy and juicy (no more disgusting dry Quinoa!). Plus coconut oil gives a little extra flavour and delicious fragrance as well.

Coconut oil is actually one of the best oils you can eat in the world!

There are so many health benefits to it, such as:

  • Lowers the risk of heart disease/high blood pressure
  • Promotes weight loss
  • Improves Type 2 Diabetes
  • Prevents cancer
  • Improves brain function & memory
  • Improves your energy & endurance

The list goes on!

All you need is to add one teaspoon to one tablespoon of oil to your rice cooker as you cook your Asian Quinoa Pack :)

2. Sesame Oil

Sesame Oil pairs perfectly with Mushroom Quinoa, Japanese Quinoa and Korean Kimchi Quinoa.

Chinese, Japanese and Korean cuisine often uses sesame oil, so what better oil to pair with these Asian Quinoa Packs than the original oil used in these three respective countries?

Sesame Oil has a very distinct smell that (if you’re from an Asian region) often makes you think of comfort, homemade food. It gives a sense of familiarity to your Quinoa and makes it extra yummy!

Of course, there are tons of health benefits to sesame oil as well, for example, Sesame Oil:

  • Improves hair health (stops hair loss)
  • Improves skin health
  • Keeps cholesterol levels low (improves heart health)
  • Prevents Osteoporosis
  • Increases metabolism

And many more!

Just like Coconut Oil, all you need is one teaspoon to one tablespoon of Sesame Oil to add to your rice cooker as your cook your Asian Quinoa Pack.
