Maca – What does that taste like?
In one of our previous articles, we explained what maca is and how it is beneficial to health. What we did not talk about is something that probably everyone regards important to their decisions as to whether to consume a product – how it tastes. We attempt to take apart this mystery in this article. We would, however, first like to disclaim that taste, like many other things, is difficult to put into words. Moreover, due to different life experiences and personal preferences, the way every individual describes the taste of a particular something differs from person to person. This article merely serves as a guide and a resource for our readers to be more informed about maca, and is in no way an attempt to make a 100% ‘accurate’ statement regarding maca’s taste! With all that said, there are several common descriptions of maca’s taste. Based on its nature as a root, it is frequently described to have an ‘earthy’ flavor, with a hint of butterscotch. While some describe it as sour, it also reminds others of caramel. In other words, it is sweet-sour, like several Asian sauces. Besides analogies, maca is also described to have a very ‘strong’ taste. This means that one probably either loves it or finds it curious on first encounter. For this reason it is unsurprising that maca powder is commonly added to smoothies for a quick energy boost, adding to the smoothies’ flavour and making them taste more interesting. The above descriptors have more or less given insight as to how maca tastes, but if you are still unsure or curious, the best thing to do is to try it yourself!
