Super Recipes – Superfoods Made Easy

You perhaps have already heard about the power of superfoods, and know that you will benefit from including them in your diet. However, are you hesitating on laying your hands on superfoods because you are unsure of how to consume them? You aren’t alone. The best part? Your solution is simple. Below are three easy ways of whipping up delectables with superfoods. Chia Seeds with Water Chia seeds are high in protein, fiber, calcium, antioxidants, and omega-3s. Gelatinous coatings develop around them when they have been soaked in water for a considerable amount of time, helping you feel full for longer and hence aiding with weight loss. The number of methods to consume chia seeds is limited to the imagination (which is infinite!), but the easiest way to do so is to simply combine them with a cup of water:

  1. Pour 1 tablespoon of chia seeds into a mug.
  2. Fill the mug with water.
  3. Stir until chia seeds are suspended.
  4. Leave for 20-30 minutes to allow chia seeds to expand.
Then, drink! That’s it, really. Everyone needs water, so this is definitely hassle-free as you’re going to be reaching out for a cup of water often, anyway. For added taste, consider adding honey or, to make chia fresca, a few drops of lemon juice. Quinoa with (Brown) Rice Quinoa is a seed (not a grain!) that is incredibly nutritious – it is high in protein, low in calories and is gluten-free. Cooked quinoa is chewy, with a little ‘bounce’, and is often used as a substitute for white rice because of its health benefits. However, there is no need to wreck your brains trying to decide if you should choose quinoa or brown rice, the latter of which is also a healthier substitute for white rice. Why not consume both?
  1. Rinse 1 1/3 cup brown rice and 2/3 cup quinoa in a bowl.
  2. Drain through a sieve (to catch the quinoa).
  3. Transfer to rice cooker, and add 2 2/3 cups of water.
  4. Cook for 25-30 minutes.
If you don’t have brown rice, white rice works as well. Maca Powder with any Hot Beverage Maca powder stabilises the body’s hormonal, cardiovascular and nervous systems and also helps us to cope with stress. A nutritional powerhouse, maca powder is undoubtedly a healthy addition to the diet. Simply add maca powder to your favourite hot beverage and you’re good to go. On lazy days when you don’t feel like preparing a fancy beverage, you can also opt to pair 1 teaspoon of maca powder with plain, hot water. While this isn’t the most palatable drink, it still packs a punch in terms of nutrition! Have other simple ways of consuming superfoods? Post a comment below!
