Metabolism: 6 Ways to Speed Up Your Weight Loss Journey
We have all heard about the fad diet plans or supplements that claims to “boost metabolism” but more often than not, this is false advertising. The truth is: the best way to increase your metabolism is to do it the natural way and you’d be surprised to know that it’s easier than one would think.
So, we listed down 6 ways you can do to increase your metabolism, the natural way.
What is Metabolism?
In essence, metabolism is the process by which our body converts food into energy. The calories from the food that we eat becomes the energy we need to function day to day.
How does raising metabolism help me?
By raising your metabolism, you burn more calories at rest. Not only will it help you lose weight, it will help improve your energy, skin tone and mood too! By following these 6 tips, you’ll be the best version of yourself.
1. Eat breakfast

To start the day right, eat the correct breakfast. Yes, stressing the importance of “correct” because a meal from your favourite fast food joints are not the right fuel you need to put in your body. So what makes a correct breakfast?
A diet that includes a combination of fat, carbs, and protein will keep your body functioning optimally and maintain your hormone levels. Eat up healthy fats from ingredients like salmon, eggs, fruits, oats.
P.S When your hormone levels is unlevelled, it can lead to weight gain and create certain health problems in the future, which we are trying to avoid.
2. Eat more protein

Protein is important for one basic reason: it can be found in every type of tissue in your body. Eating more protein gives your body more amino acids, which are building blocks for muscles. Plus, diets high in protein makes you full faster, prompting you to eat less.
Some great protein for you to include in your diet are:
- – Quinoa
- – Unsweetened Cacao Powder
- – Mushrooms
- – Eggs
- – Almonds
- – Avocado
3. Drink more green tea

Go green with green tea! It burns up an extra 70-100 calories per day due to the antioxidants called catechin (ECGC & polyphenols) in the tea. Catechin triggers the release of fat from fat cells and help increase the speed of the liver’s capacity for turning fat into energy.
Just make sure that you drink the original green tea and not the ones that is bottled because that contains more sugar, which doesn’t aid in speeding up your metabolism rate.
4. Spice up your food
Spicing up your food can actually stimulate metabolism and thus, increasing your calorie burn. This is because hot stuff like cayenne peppers, dried mustard and even chili powder contain capsaicin, which increases proteins found in the muscle.
So, add more chili into your food. One way to do is to try our Spicy Curry Quinoa because of its curry powder sachet which is great to increase your metabolism or if you want to try our 1 Min Thai Tom Yum Quinoa Soup which has the same effect.
5. Exercise

One of the most effective way to maximize your metabolism is to exercise regularly through programs such as high intensive interval training (HIIT).
HIIT burns more calories in half the time than your usual cardio and it also constantly burns up to 24 hours after exercise. In other words, even while you’re resting, it will continue to burn the calories. Now, who wouldn’t want that!
However, just because you exercise regularly doesn’t mean that you’ll keep increasing your metabolism. Without proper recovery between workouts, your muscles will not get a chance to rest and rebuild. This affects your hormone levels.
6. Get a good night sleep

Personally, I don’t need much convincing to do this. But for some, sleep deprivation is real. Studies have shown that the lack of sleep has been linked to increase blood sugar levels, making you feel hungry.
Plus, it’s not easy to get a good night sleep with distractions from the mobile and laptop. Time to switch off, and put your head to pillow.
Don’t forget to be consistent and strict in sleeping on time. Ideally, 7-8 hours of rest will be best for your body to recover and rebuild itself for the next day.
And then when you wake up, repeat from Tip #1 and you’ll be the best shape of your life!
